Lewis had a "Christmas Waiting", with underlying sales 6.2pc, leaving the hope

During the five weeks to years, sales of £ 596m John Lewis hit, compared to
9.3pc in 2010. Like
for like sales - which exclude the impact of new stores - rose 6.2pc, higher
than analysts had expected, as the retailer has experienced a late surge of
customers before Christmas. He
says he sold "ridiculous amounts and Kindle Cases."

barometer of industry retail sales in the UK. The
figures sound impressed observers of the details, although many noted that their
sales may have improved at the expense of profits.

greatest ever week with a total of 133 million pounds week ending 17 December
.. The first week of release [sale] has been a good start, but against the
pre-week increase in VAT in 2010, was always going to be a challenge to match
the sale, including "big
ticket" items. "
John Lewis revealed that retail sales on the Internet have become much stronger
than their high street shops. Sales
rose 27.9pc at johnlewis.com during the period.
